About Me:

My name is Bywell Dan Mtegha, (Danbywell), a tourism professional and travel blogger from Malawi, Africa.

My vision:

I envision a travel and tourism sector that is professionally managed. It is my belief and desire to see a vibrant sector with raised business profiles offering nothing but services that surpass customers’ expectations by using innovative solutions that minimise costs of operations

My Mission:

To help people, communities, businesses and organisations scale up their impact through tourism and effectively contribute towards Malawi 2063 and SDGs.

Education:

I have an Msc. in Tourism Management obtained from Beijing International Studies University (BISU) and Bsc in Tourism from Mzuzu University.

Previous Roles:

In my past 11 years in the tourism sector, I have assumed different roles such as Assistant Hotel Manager, Food and Beverage Supervisor, Duty Manager, Business Development Executive, Research Assistant and Tourism officer. Currently I am serving as a Senior Tourism Officer responsible for tourism marketing with Ministry of Tourism.

Preferred approach to work:

I understand that every person or business has different needs. Understanding these diverse needs/perspectives is very important to me because it guides me how I may best assist those I work with. I mostly like to work with people in a customised way. ‘’Not one size fits all’’ approach.

My philosophy:

revolves around kindness, improving other people’s lives, striving for professionalism, and sustainability. I am a staunch believer of life possibilities – [What can be thought of, definitely can be done]

My interests:

I like nature, sports-both indoor and outdoor, adventure, travel, music and of course hanging out with family and friends.

Work

Facilitated tourism investment projects in Accommodation, Tour operations and Food enterprises worth over MK 5b.
Developed over 50 project proposals/business plans
As a Tourism Inspector, I Have inspected over 250 Tourism enterprises to enhance quality assurance in the tourism sector.
As a Star Grading Assessor, I have assessed four Tourism accommodation enterprises for Star rating.
I have facilitated over five Tourism and Hotels Board Meetings
I have assisted registration of 115 Tourism businesses
I have helped development of 100 Tourism businesses
Pioneered the setting up of Malawi Youth in Tourism Association.
Assisted in the formulation of The Malawi National Tourism Policy: 2019-2023
Assisted in undertaking of the only Malawi Domestic and Outbound Tourism Survey (2021) and development of the Experiential Malawi Satellite Accounting System.
Facilitated numerous press trips/ Fam tours for Malawi as a tourist destination.
